Beach & Forest School First Aid Level 3
Highly practical course, covering additional elements of paediatric first aid in a Forest & Beach School context its suitable for Forest & Beach School Practitioners and those working outdoors with adults and children from 1 year upwards. This First Aid qualification is externally regulated and meets the standards that appear upon the national qualification’s frameworks of England and Wales. This course is recognised throughout the UK and is the course of choice for experienced practitioners who use the outdoors.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner will……
1 Understand the roles and responsibility of first aid in the outdoors.
2 Be able to interpret vital sign information whilst responding to an emergency incident in the
outdoors.
3 Be able to assess an emergency incident in the outdoors.
4 Be able to apply incident management and casualty assessment principles in the outdoors.
5 Be able to respond to an incident involving activity or environmental factors in the outdoors
6 First aid equipment and record keeping
7 Be able to conduct a detailed primary and secondary survey
8 Be able to respond to an incident outdoors involving;
· a collapsed patient
· children being aware of differences in vital signs
· an unresponsive casualty with normal breathing,
· an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing,
· a choking casualty,
· CPR & AED
· blood loss including severe and shock recognition,
· limb injury,
· a head, neck or torso injury
· treatment of minor injuries including burns, bites and stngs
· medical conditions, poisons or sudden illness
· stabilising, insulating and monitoring casualties
· management of multiple casualties
· the effects of drowning, cold, heat and dehydration

Delivery
Outdoor specific scenarios and outdoor incident management, answering queries such as when or how to remove boots, helmets and looking after a casualty for some hours.
This qualification is designed to provide outdoor incident management skills. Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical, with elements occurring out of doors in outdoor clothing and on various terrains. The course is assessed by continual observation of candidate performance.
Features
Successful completion will result in candidate gaining either an ITC Certificate in Outdoor First Aid (RQF/SQA) or ITC Forest School First Aid Certificate. with a valid (licence to practice) lifetime of 3 years from date of completion. The qualification is revalidated by attending another similar course after 3 years
